Rural Studio, AL

Photographed for the American Institute of Architect's (AIA) in 2016, to promote their Blueprint for Better Film Challenge Campaign. The campaign invites filmmakers around the world to create documentary shorts showing how architecture is serving the community. Founded in 1993, Rural Studio is an Auburn University design/build program in Newbern, Alabama whose ethos is that everyone, both rich and poor, deserve the benefit of good design. Located in Alabama's Black Belt Region, an underserved and rural area, Rural Studio has completed over 170 projects to date—from homes to community centers to municipalities—in the surrounding three counties and has paved the way for similar programs around the world to find the way best to serve their own communities | Pictured: Newbern Fire Station
